National 4-H Poultry and Egg Lessons That Still Shape How I Work

Long before Feliz Inc ever existed, 4-H taught me how to communicate with purpose. I learned that leadership is not about having the loudest voice, it is about listening, learning, and showing up. Those same lessons still guide how we work today in agriculture, food systems, and other regulated industries.

Marketing in these spaces takes discipline, patience, and a deep respect for the people who live the work every day. That is something every 4-H member understands instinctively. You do not cut corners when it comes to animals, projects, or people. You do the job right because integrity matters.

Here are a few 4-H lessons that continue to guide me and the team at Feliz Inc.

1. Learn by Doing Still Works
4-H is built on experience. You do not just read about leadership, you practice it. The same is true in marketing and business. To build trust in regulated industries, you need to understand the environment from the inside. The barns, the boardrooms, and everything in between.

2. Speak So Everyone Understands
When I was teaching poultry judging or helping a younger members with their projects, I learned how to explain complex topics in plain language. That same clarity matters in every campaign we build. If a fifth grader cannot understand your message, it is probably too complicated.

3. Serve Before You Sell
4-H teaches service first. You help your club, your county, and your community. In business, that mindset builds real relationships. The goal is not just to market products, or to sell something, it is to create value and trust that last beyond the transaction.

Those lessons from my 4-H years are the same principles that drive Feliz Inc today. Whether we are building strategies for food companies, trade associations, or ag tech startups, we lead with clarity, integrity, and connection.

Because good marketing, and smart business, just like good leadership, always starts with doing the right thing for the right reasons.

Real Strategy. Real Relationships. Real Influence.
